    Alexander V., Warsaw

I’ve been working with Oazis for a year. Very satisfied with the cars — always clean and safe. With the team, I quickly handled license requirements for Uber and started earning. Payments are always on time, every Wednesday. Special thanks for the help with the residence card.

    Dmitry

I’ve been working at Oazis-Park for a year and a half. During this time, I never regretted choosing this company. Although when I started working here, it was a new and little-known company.

    Andrew

I used this car rental company, took a car on 17.10.2023 for a week’s trip to Germany and the Netherlands. The cost to rent was lower than competitors. The car was reliable, in good technical condition, with great fuel economy. The deposit was returned on the spot. Thanks!

How much tax does a sole trader pay in Poland?

A sole trader in Poland can choose one of three taxation systems. The most beneficial for taxi drivers is ryczałt 8.5% of real income (not the amount in the app!). There’s also a progressive scale: 12% up to 120,000 PLN per year, then 32%, and a linear tax of 19%. Plus mandatory ZUS contributions — for beginners, the first 6 months only 380-400 PLN, then a preferential period for another 24 months with contributions around 443 PLN + medical contribution that depends on income.

At what income level is it not necessary to become a sole trader in Poland?

You can work without JDG registration if your monthly income (revenue, not profit) doesn’t exceed 75% of the minimum wage. In 2025, it is 3,499.50 zł.

Starting January 1, 2026, a quarterly income limit will be introduced. The new threshold will be 225% of the minimum wage per quarter, which, with 4,806 PLN per month, gives a limit of 10,813.50 PLN.

This format is called “unregistered activity”. However, for full-time taxi work, this limit is too small, and you’ll exceed it in a few days. Therefore, for stable and legal work, sole trader registration is mandatory.

Can a sole trader in Poland hire employees?

Yes, they can! A sole trader in Poland can hire employees under employment contracts or civil-law contracts without restrictions. However, for each employee, you need to pay additional ZUS contributions, but this allows you to expand the business, for example, create your own car fleet for renting to other drivers.

However, for taxi work, this is rare, as most drivers prefer to set up as sole traders themselves for greater freedom and savings. If you want to hire, consult with an accountant to properly process documents.

Who can become a sole trader in Poland?

Any citizen of Poland or the EU can become a sole trader. Foreigners can also register if their residence permit allows them to conduct business activities in Poland. The procedure to register as a sole trader is simple—you apply online via CEIDG or in person at the local municipality to get your NIP number.

    FAQ

Why am I asked to become a sole trader?

This form of cooperation is more profitable. B2B (business-to-business) is a partnership, not employment. By opening a JDG, you stop being an employee and become an independent sole trader. This gives you direct control over your finances, significantly lowers your taxes, and opens up new growth opportunities.

What amount is tax-free in Poland?

Poland has a tax-free amount (kwota wolna od podatku) of 30,000 zł per year. However, it’s important to understand that this only applies to the general tax system (zasady ogólne, 12%/32%). Under the lump-sum system (ryczałt, 8.5%), which we recommend as the most beneficial for a taxi sole trader business, this exemption does not apply.

In what case is it not necessary to become a sole trader?

You do not need to register a JDG if you work under an employment contract (umowa o pracę) or a mandate contract (umowa zlecenie). However, in the ride-sharing industry with apps like Uber and Bolt, this is rarely an option. To work legally and with a high income, you need to register as a sole trader.

    Do sole traders pay VAT?

It depends on your annual income. In Poland, if your annual turnover as a sole trader is below 200,000 PLN (240,000 PLN from 2026), you are generally exempt from VAT registration. Most new drivers fall under this threshold. If your income exceeds this amount, you are required to register as a VAT payer. The good news is that passenger transport services benefit from a reduced VAT rate of 8%, not the standard 23%. Our recommended accountants can advise you on the best approach for your situation.

What are three advantages of a sole trader?

Becoming a sole trader (JDG) is the most popular way to work in a taxi in Poland for several key reasons:

    • Maximum Financial Control: You keep significantly more of your earnings. Instead of high commissions, you pay a low flat tax (like the recommended 8.5% ryczałt) only on your actual income, giving you higher take-home pay.
    • Simplicity and Freedom: It is the easiest and fastest form of business to start, often in just one day. You are your own boss, with the freedom to control your work schedule and business decisions.
    • Official Status and Opportunities: Operating as a legal business entity opens doors in Poland. You can use this status to obtain a residence permit (karta pobytu), get approved for loans and leasing, and even secure a mortgage for a home.
